The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital has a proud tradition of care. For more than 100 years, AMGH has cared for the people of Goderich, surrounding southwest communities, and beyond. Residing in the heart of cottage country on the shores of Lake Huron, we offer healthcare not only to our community residents but to the many visitors who frequent our beautiful area year round.

The AMGH provides health care services in Huron County for the Town of Goderich and surrounding picture of the beautiful Beach located in Goderichmunicipalities with a catchment area of approximately 25,000 people. This figure increases dramatically during the summer months due to the recreational nature of the surrounding area.


The Maitland Valley Medical Centre (MVMC) opened in June 2005 and is located across the road from the hospital. The MVMC is the location for the Maitland Valley Family Health Team (MVFHT). The Team consists of 12 GPs (and their support staff including RNs and RPNs), several NPs, a dietitian, pharmacist, social worker, family and couples counsellor, psychologist, diabetic educator, health promoter/educator, and administrative support staff. In addition to providing primary care services the MVFHT provides chronic disease management programs, health promotion and preventative care programs.

Goderich sits atop the scenic bluff’s overlooking beautiful Lake Huron. The Town of Goderich known nation-wide as the Prettiest Little Town in Canada has been named by Chatelaine magazine as One of the ten best places to live in Canada and identified as one of the 20 great places to live by 50 Plus magazine.

Goderich has developed into a prosperous Lake Huron port and is considered to be one of the premier vacation spots in Southwestern Ontario.

With a population of 8,000 the small town feeling is captured by its natural and historical beauty and also by the town’s citizens. Goderich’s natural setting along Ontario’s West Coast provides an incredible number of recreation and leisure choices.

The Maitland Recreation Centre-YMCA offers an indoor swimming pool, hockey arena, state-of the-art exercise equipment, 2 gyms, walking track,

etc. Goderich also offers swimming, fishing, water skiing, boating, scuba diving, hiking, cycling, golfing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, skating, hockey, theatre, arts and crafts galleries. Goderich is home of the Celtic Festival as well as other well known music festivals and performances, Livery Theatre, arts and crafts galleries.

The town has a thriving industry base which includes Sifto Salt Mine and is architecturally rich. The Goderich Airport is one of Ontario’s finest municipal airports. The local school systems include Public and Catholic elementary and high schools including French Immersion. Goderich makes shopping a great experience. The downtown square is heralded as being one of the most unique outdoor shopping malls. The Suncoast Mall offers many stores under one roof with a bright and comfortable atmosphere.
